Mission

To create a collaborative community-based system of care that will promote early detection screening behaviors and treatment of breast cancer among African American women

Project goals
Phase I (1999 - 2002)

  • Reach 300 African American women by October 2001
  • Identify effective strategies for increasing the number of African American women who practice the 3 early detection behaviors
  • Reduce breast cancer deaths among African Americans

Phase II (2002 -      )

  • Increase the number of African American women who engage in early detection screening behaviors on an ongoing basis.
  • Increase the number of African American women who continue to practice Breast Self-Examination.
  • Promote coordination, collaboration, and linkages among breast cancer care service providers to facilitate the development of a continuum of care that reflects an "ideal" array of services for women living with or affected by breast cancer.

Methodology

  • Utilize community members to design and deliver programs
  • Partner with community agencies and organizations that address the needs of women

  • Partner with the project by allowing use of your facilities
